Water Leaks
Water leaks happen in all municipalities. Besides the obvious sign of excess water running where it shouldn't be, you may notice low water pressure or discolored water. Please report water leaks as soon as possible to Town Hall at 301-824-7234. Public Works staff works quickly to locate and repair water leaks on main lines on public property. Above-ground and under-ground water leaks within the service lines to private property are the responsibility of the homeowner.
Sewer Back-Ups
Sewer back-ups are problematic for all involved. If you suspect a sewer leak at your property, please contact Town Hall at 301-824-7234 as soon as possible. Public Works staff will be able to determine whether a sewer leak is located within the Town's main line or on a homeowner's lateral line. Sewer leaks located on private property are the responsibility of the homeowner.
Water Meter Reading
Public Works staff reads water meters every three months. Many of the water meters located throughout town can be read remotely, by driving past the residence and capturing the reading via a hand-held unit. The Town still has manual-read meters installed throughout town as well. If your meter is a manual-read meter, Public Works staff will access the meter directly to retrieve the current reading. Meters are typically located either on the house or in a crock in the front yard. It is the responsibility of the property owner to keep the meters visible and clear of debris.
Fire Hydrant Flushing
Fire hydrants are flushed every year to clean out the water mains and allow for an operational check of each individual hydrant. Residents can expect to experience low water pressure and discolored water while hydrants are being flushed in your area.
Street Lights
Street lights are maintained by Potomac Edison. Street light outages can be reported directly to Potomac Edison by phone or website or you may contact Town Hall at 301-824-7234. Please have the pole number handy before contacting Potomac Edison.
